The marine department of Sawyer Cook Insurance has been a dream that has taken 25 years to build. When Al came to the agency in 1982, the agency had carriers for marine business, but didn't write this type of business. In came Al Grout with a desire to utilize his experience with watercraft and sport fishing contacts.

Not to many years later, the agency had a bass boat program, an offshore boat program, was handling the insurances for several major tournament promoters, and looking aggressively for more areas of the sport fishing business. The agency began appearing yearly in the biggest sport fishing trade shows on the west coast. The goal there was to promote the agency and increase our "foot print" in the maritime insurance industry.

Being an active tournament bass fishermen, a long time member of the Inland Empire Bassmaster, loving the saltwater scene, and always being a "spokesmen" for the sport, the agency embarked on television and radio through its connections with FOX SPORTS WEST, and Ronnie Kovach Fishing Expeditions. This broadened the scope of the agencies reach and visibility. As a weekly contributor on the "Radio Fishing University Show" hosted by Ronnie Kovach, the marine department plays a vital role in the marine business.

The need to expand into other states has lead the agency to write business throughout the western states including Alaska. Lodges, guiding services, commercial hull and special events are a number of the things now available to customers of Sawyer Cook Insurances' Marine Division.

On the political side, Al has been a consultant to United Anglers of California for many years. He is a past board member and handles UAC's insurance needs for projects like the White Sea Bass grow out facilities in Southern California. He also handles insurance for Salmon Grow outs facilities in Northern California. Conservation is always on the minds of the SCI marine division.

Lastly, Al's desire to help others learn about the sport he grew up learning from his dad has lead to many anglers learning and even a "lady anglers squad" now rooted in Sawyer Cook Insurance. Who would have every guessed that Sawyer Cook would be so firmly imbedded in the marine business. Truly a dream come true!
